Cooleman Court Collects Local Stories to Celebrate Centres 40th Birthday

This October sees Weston Creek’s Cooleman Court celebrating its 40th birthday and they are inviting their local community to join in the celebrations by sharing their own stories from over the past 40 years. These unique and personal stories of Weston Creek’s rich history will then be commemorated within the walls of the centre for all visitors to enjoy.

For locals to make their mark within the centre they simply need to submit their own story of anything that has taken place over the past 40 years. Not only will the story be potentially featured in the centre commemoration, but there is also the opportunity to win a $250 Cooleman Court gift card.

Stories can include favourite memories, newspaper articles or photos of the local area. Entrants are encouraged to share their fondest memories. Perhaps you share an anniversary with the centre? Or perhaps you were one of the 600 young students that queued up for one of 45 part time jobs when Woolworths first opened in March 1978?

Cooleman Court has always been closely involved with its local community. In fact, the centre’s name was elected from those nominated by the community 40 years ago. Cooleman Court, a name of Aboriginal origin meaning food basket, was chosen. The community also designed and selected the centre’s first ever logo. Back in the day, the centre was the first of its kind in Canberra and cost an impressive $10 million to build.

To continue celebrations of this amazing milestone, Cooleman Court will be hosting two days of exciting events and giveaways toward the end of October. Shoppers who spend in centre over the two days can opt to be placed into a draw to be one of 40 that will win a $40 voucher. There will also be children’s entertainment, taste testing, free mini pamper sessions and plenty of giveaways.

Irini Daglis, Cooleman Court Centre Manager said: “Cooleman Court is the heart of Weston Creek and has been aligned with the community from the day it opened. We continue to nurture the unique, highly valued relationship we have with our customers, as well as our retailers, some of whom have been here since the day we opened our doors. We look forward to building on these partnerships and seeing what the next 40 years brings.”

The Festival of You will also be taking place over the month of October where there will be a series of wellness inspired events taking place, supported by ambassador, Rachael Finch. The ‘Festival of You’ provides customers with experiences, offers, and activations that celebrate everything about you.

40 Years of Stories will run for the month of September. Shoppers can email in their stories to info@coolemancourt.com.au, drop in to Centre Management or share them on Facebook at Facebook/CoolemanCourt
